This International Standard [ISO 9001-2015] specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization
- needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and
- aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
All the requirements of this International Standard are generic [common] and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.
NOTE–
- In this International Standard, the terms “product” or “service” only apply to products and services intended for, or required by, a customer.
- Statutory and regulatory requirements can be expressed as legal requirements.
1.1 Scope – automotive supplemental to ISO 9001:2015
This Automotive QMS Standard defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, assembly, installation, and services of automotive-related products, including products with embedded software.
This Automotive QMS Standard is applicable to sites of the organization where manufacturing of customer-specified production parts, service parts, and/or accessory parts occur.
This Automotive QMS standard should be applied throughout the automotive supply chain.
“In 1.1 scope heading line i have highlighted automotive supplemental to ISO 9001-2015, what is it mean?
It mean IATF 16949 comply ISO 9001-2015 requirements and according to ISO 9001-2015 organization should have a Quality management system. So IATF 16949 complete ISO 9001-2015 requirement of having QMS in automotive industries.
Every automotive organization which is making automotive component must have a quality management system for product design and development, production, assembly, installation and service.
ISO 9001-2015 says organization should have QMS, same requirement repeat by IATF 16949.
When IATF-16949 repeat same requirement of having QMS then it add one more word, that is Automotive.
So Scope of IATF-16949 is -“Organization must have an Automotive Quality management system”.
