Transforming features of Car and ADAS

 Advance features of Honda City HEV

Some advanced features of the car have made driving much better and safer in the year 2022. All these features come under ADAS (Advance driver assistance system). Due to ADAS, car accidents have reduced very little today, which shows a picture of the future in which car driving is completely human free. The role of ADAS is to prevent deaths and injuries. 

Some safety & Critical application of ADAS:-

• Pedestrian detection/avoidance
• Lane departure warning/correction
• Traffic sign recognition
• Automatic emergency braking
• Blind spot detection

According to SAE J3016 ( Taxonomy and Definitions for Terms Related to Driving Automation Systems for On-Road Motor Vehicles), ADAS can be divided into 6 levels.

8. Blind Spot Monitoring

13. 5G and V2X

Here in this article, i have pick Honda City car (Fitted with Honda Sensing suits). Features in this Car are advance, but those feature don’t make it Level-3 ADAS car. Some are below features added in most of Honda cars- Honda City, Honda Oddessy, Honda Accord.

VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)

SAFE (Road Departure Mitigation – RDM)

AUDIBLE OFF (Collision Mitigation Braking System- CMBS)

EPB & BRAKE HOLD (Electronic Parking Brake)

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

Some other feature added in Level-2 or Level-3 cars, like-Mahindra XUV700.

Honda make this audio remote with part no- 35880-TVA-A31 installed on steering wheel. Following function can be done through this multimedia switch:

1. Volume- Up & Down

2. Phone Call Pick & Cut

3. Change of song

Cruise control steering switch of Honda city Car

This is installed right side of steering switch. ADAS feature can be active with this switch control. Following feature added in this cruise control steering switch:-

1. Cruise Control

2. LKAS (Lane keep assist system)

3. ACC (Adaptive cruise control)

What is ACC (Advance cruise control) in CAR?

ACC is enhancement from conventional cruise control. Conventional cruise control can maintain steady speed that we set. But ACC automatically adjusts the speed of your car to match the speed of the car in front of you. 

If the car ahead slows down, ACC can automatically match it. Once the car ahead moves out of your lane or accelerates beyond your car’s set speed, your ACC allows your car to return to the speed that you have set.

How to use Honda ACC switch?

First study the layout of Switch. In ACC switch, you see one button for ON & other for Cancel. On upside you see RES/+ (Resume) and in downside you see SET/+. 

You have to ON ACC, them drive your car until you reach your desired speed and hit SET/+. After that you can take off your foot from Gas pedal then your car will maintain the speed for you. If you want to cancel or stop cruise when you need to stop the car, make turn select cancel button. If you want to resume previous set cruise control press the RES/+ button. This will put your car back into cruise control, at the speed you set previously. 

If you again want to change the SET speed limit, then again press the gas pedal and reach upto that limit and press SET/+ button. 

How does ACC system works in CAR?

There is speed and distance sensor in your car. ACC uses information from two sensors, one is distance sensor which monitor the gap of car ahead and other sensor is speed sensor-that automatically accelerate/deaccelerate your car.
